Day Three - On the road again!
From Moving West! Michigan to Portland, OR in St Louis, United States on Aug 02 '07
Well, we finally got back on the road early Friday afternoon. We stayed on the highway because, honestly, we were both a little anxious to get out of Illinois. The people we met were very nice and accommodating, but we had places to go and things to see.
So, there's not a lot to see in Southern Central Illinois.
We did stop through Lincoln, IL, and check out the world's largest covered wagon.
We did stop through Lincoln, IL, and check out the world's largest covered wagon. We also stopped by the Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield (feeding the fascination with cemeteries :), which is where Abe Lincoln's body was first interred after his assassination. The monuments were actually quite nice.
We finally pulled into St. Louis around 3pm. We spent about an hour walking around the riverfront, checking out the arch (of course), and marveling at the mighty Mississippi, then we got in the car and headed Southwest on a mission for my friend, Jules. She asked me to go by Joyce Meyer's ministry complex in Fenton and get some pics for her, since we were going to be in the area. An hour later, we had the photos (alas, the complex was closed, so we only got exterior shots), and we were on our way to Kansas City.
